The New Era of Female Country Artists

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

Happy 2020, readers! I'm so sorry that life got the best of me the last couple months and I haven't been able to publish a new post. I'm hoping that I can do better in 2020!

Reba. Shania. Trisha. Faith. Martina. These women dominated country music charts in the 90s and early 00s. Throughout most of the last decade, there has really only been 3 Female Country Artists that did well--Carrie, Miranda, and Taylor (sort of--if you consider her a Country artist still). We are finally starting to see a rise in female country artists and I am here to share with you a few that I've been loving! Over the last couple years, country music has been graced with the presence of Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris. Both have done well considering the domination of male country artists.

Now there is even more female artists on the horizon and I, for one, am here for it! Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Lauren Alaina, Lainey Wilson, Gabby Barrett, and Ingrid Andress to name a few. I have been able to see all of these ladies mentioned perform in person and let me tell you, I think 2020 will be the year of the Women of Country Music!

Carly has already confirmed the release date of her sophomore album in February

, with a new song that was just released last week! With the new music that has been released by all of the other artists, it is likely we will be getting new projects from all of these artists in 2020 as well! The songs that have already been released tell me these ladies will be a force to be reckoned with. I'm particularly hoping Ingrid will release an EP of some sort in the next couple months. I'm loving all of the songs she has released so far and her first single to Country Radio, More Hearts Than Mine is currently sitting in the top 20 on the Country Music Charts and is continuing to climb. Gabby will be releasing a new single this week as well, titled Hall of Fame.

Not only are we going to have new music from them, but it appears we will be seeing them perform this year at festivals and shows all over the country! Some of these ladies have already been confirmed to perform at Stagecoach, Tortuga, Country Jam festivals, Carolina Country Music Fest, Country Concert in Ohio, Trailblazer Fest, Buckeye Country Fest, and all of the Country Thunder festivals. There are still several major festivals that have yet to announce their lineups, so I'm sure this list will grow! In addition to the festival announcements, Ingrid just announced she will be opening the Spring portion of Dan + Shay's 2020 arena tour. To be a newer artist and get that kind of exposure is HUGE! Ashley McBryde, Lainey Wilson, and Lauren Alaina will also be on the road for major tours this year with Luke Combs, Justin Moore, and Blake Shelton, respectively.

The very first time I saw Ashley McBryde, I had never heard any of her music or even knew who she was.

She performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the first day of the festival in 2017 on the Next From Nashville stage. Later that evening, during Eric Church's headlining set, she came out wearing a shirt that said "Whiskey Drinking Badass" and I knew right then, she was my kind of lady! I got the chance to see her perform a couple of songs acoustically a couple of months after that and that was where I really got to see her showcase her talents. This lady is a phenomenal storyteller through her lyrics and I feel like listeners are really able to connect to her songs. A couple of my favorites are: Girl Goin' Nowhere, A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega, and The Jacket. I'm also loving her current single, One Night Standards. Fun fact: You can visit the Little Dive Bar Ashley refers to in her song at The Crimson Moon in Dahlonega, Georgia. Ashley was finally recognized for her talents at this last CMA Awards, winning New Artist of the Year. She is definitely not a "Girl Goin' Nowhere". Not only is she incredibly talented musically, I think she's one of the funniest people on social media. If you're not following her on Instagram for her "All Faked Up" stories, you're doing it wrong. Lainey Wilson and Lauren Alaina are equally as hilarious on social media. I hope you all get the chance to check out all of these ladies' new music and their performances on the road. Let me know what y'all think!

Until Next Time!

xoxo Britt
